Ducted Ventilation in Action

As our homes become tighter and more energy efficient, the introduction of fresh air for health and safety is essential. A ducted system with heat recovery such as Zehnder is a great approach, especially for a larger home.

Above: a Zehnder return-air manifold, mounted in the ceiling, transitioning from 3” flex duct to 8” rigid. Ducted ventilation provides fresh, filtered air at low volumes with a heat-recovery system for improved health, comfort and energy efficiency.

A Zehnder unit is typically wall mounted, ideally in a utility room or garage location near an exterior wall as it will have two approximately 8" ducts, one exhausting internal air and one bringing in outside air.

During a recent site visit, we captured this 2-minute video of the framed-in system, showing the location of the equipment, the main 8” ducts from the unit, the manifold for the 3” flex duct and the ceiling registers. Grant Murphy is our tour guide.
