The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) recently convened its third annual Net Positive Energy + Water Conference. Hosted this year in San Diego, the event included presentations on cutting edge technologies for energy and water savings, offered case studies from certified and ongoing Net Positive projects, and addressed policy challenges for implementation.

The Central Coast Green Building Council (formerly C4) has announced its Green Awards recipients for 2015. At the annual gala in Santa Barbara on December 4th, winners in seven categories were honored for work including a Santa Barbara County office building retrofit, an innovative upcycled greenhouse, an electric car-friendly transit center, and the first LEED certified winery in Santa Barbara County.

Colorado State University’s Chemistry Department Creates a True Recyclable
Recently, in a chemistry lab at Colorado State University, Eugene Chen and Miao Hong achieved a technological breakthrough that could lead to truly recyclable plastics. In their study published in Nature Chemistry in November 2015, Chen and Hong “describe synthesizing a polyester that, when simply reheated for an hour, converts back to its original molecular state, ready for reuse”.
